The Chernivtsi Art Museum is the only art museum in Bukovina that preserves a valuable collection of Ukrainian and regional painting. It is located in the very center of Chernivtsi in a magnificent early 20th-century building designed in the Vienna Secession style. The architecture itself — with stained-glass windows, sculptures, decorative elements, and a majolica panel on the façade — is a true work of art.

The museum’s collections include around 12,000 exhibits, featuring works by Bukovinian artists, icon painting, and decorative and ornamental art from the 17th to the 20th centuries.

The Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local Lore is the largest museum institution in Chernivtsi, preserving unique materials related to the history, ethnography, and culture of Northern Bukovina and the Khotyn region. Founded in the late 19th century, the museum today holds more than 120,000 exhibits. Its numerous halls display archaeological finds, early printed books, ethnographic artifacts, 18th–19th-century weapons, icons, and works by Bukovinian artists.

The exhibitions introduce visitors to the region’s nature, the history of the city of Chernivtsi, cultural traditions, and prominent figures of the area, revealing the rich and diverse world of Bukovinian heritage.

Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews

The Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews in Chernivtsi is dedicated to the centuries-long history of the Jewish community of the region, which played an important role in the cultural and social life of the city. The museum is located in the building of the former Jewish National House on Teatralna Square and tells the story of the unique phenomenon of Bukovinian Jewry in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The exhibition combines documents, photographs, books, religious objects, and materials about prominent cultural and scientific figures. It also presents materials about outstanding writers and artists of Bukovina, as well as testimonies of the tragic events of World War II, allowing visitors to understand the complex yet remarkably rich history of the region.

Café Museum "Grand Cafe"

The Grand Café Museum in Chernivtsi is located in the very center of the city, at the corner of Olha Kobylianska and Kafedralna streets. The café was recreated on the site of the city’s first coffee house, founded more than a hundred years ago by Austrian entrepreneurs, and it preserves the atmosphere of Chernivtsi during the Austro-Hungarian period.

The interior is decorated with antique objects, including kerosene lamps, Austrian brick stamps, lithographs, documents, and various vintage items. Guests can enjoy a variety of house-roasted coffee blends as well as classic Austrian desserts, such as Sachertorte and apple strudel.

Open-air museum

The Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Folk Architecture and Life is an open-air museum that introduces visitors to the traditional life and culture of Bukovina. Founded in 1977 and opened to visitors in 1986, the museum recreates more than 35 architectural monuments on its grounds — including peasant houses, farm buildings, a windmill, a blacksmith’s workshop, a tavern, a church, and other structures dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries. These exhibits illustrate how the region’s inhabitants lived in the past. The museum offers a unique opportunity not only to see the architecture of past centuries but also to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural traditions of Bukovina.

Olha Kobylianska Literary and Memorial Museum

The Olha Kobylianska Literary and Memorial Museum in Chernivtsi is located in a small one-story house — the first home owned by the prominent Ukrainian writer. The exhibition introduces visitors to her life, literary work, public activity, and cultural connections.

The museum preserves memorial rooms, including the writer’s study and bedroom, where her personal belongings, furniture, and household items are displayed. Here visitors can learn more about her life, the development of Ukrainian literature in Bukovina, and see the space where her famous works were created.

Yurii Fedkovych Literary and Memorial Museum

The Yurii Fedkovych Literary and Memorial Museum in Chernivtsi is dedicated to the life and work of one of the classics of Ukrainian literature. The museum was opened in 1946 in the house on Soborna Square where the writer spent the final years of his life. It was here that the Ukrainian society “Ruska Besida” operated and where the newspaper “Bukovyna”, edited by Fedkovych, was published.

The museum’s exhibition introduces visitors to the writer’s creative legacy, presenting first editions of his works, documents, photographs, and memorial items. A special atmosphere is created by the preserved room where Fedkovych lived and the editorial office of the newspaper, allowing visitors to experience the cultural life of Chernivtsi in the late 19th century.

Museum of the Bukovinian Diaspora

The Chernivtsi Museum of the Bukovinian Diaspora is the first museum in Ukraine dedicated to the history and culture of people from Bukovina who live in different countries around the world. The museum houses documents, photographs, and personal belongings that tell the stories of Bukovinians in Canada, the United States, European countries, Australia, and South America.

The exhibition introduces visitors to the waves of emigration from Bukovina, the experiences of settlers, and the development of Ukrainian communities abroad. Science Museum

The Interactive Science Museum in Chernivtsi, created by the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, is a modern space where science becomes understandable and engaging. It is the third museum of this kind in Ukraine after Kyiv and Lviv. Its main feature is interactivity: visitors are not only allowed but encouraged to touch the exhibits and conduct their own experiments.

The museum features nearly 100 exhibits that explain physical phenomena, optical illusions, and the laws of nature in an engaging and playful way. Visitors can walk through a mirror maze, see the Ames room, or learn how a kaleidoscope works. Volodymyr Ivasyuk Memorial Museum

The Volodymyr Ivasyuk Memorial Museum in Chernivtsi is dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding Ukrainian composer, author of the songs “Chervona Ruta” and “Vodohrai.” The museum was opened in 1999 in the Ivasyuk family apartment, where the composer lived in the early 1970s.

The exhibition features the artist’s personal belongings, manuscripts, photographs, and the piano on which he composed his music. The museum also functions as a cultural space where concerts, exhibitions, and artistic events dedicated to Ukrainian music regularly take place.
