About the audio guide
The exhibition of the Odessa National Art Museum presents artworks from different historical periods, ranging from the era of the Russian Empire to contemporary Ukraine. A section of the exhibition devoted to Soviet-era art includes works created in the style of socialist realism. These artworks contain elements of Soviet propaganda, including depictions of military figures and dictators.
The curators acknowledge that, in the context of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, such imagery may be provocative and potentially traumatic for visitors.
However, the curatorial intent of the exhibition is to provide a research-based exploration of the history of the art school within the context of its time. The curators seek to present a complete picture of the artistic heritage, without concealing its complex and controversial aspects.
